Scattered throughout the East Coast countryside are countless examples of stone walls built from materials near at hand.  The natural shale backbone of that area provides ample and beautiful material with which the artisans of a distant age worked their craft.  With no mortar to hold them together, they still appear as expertly laid as they were originally over 150 years ago.
