Acadia National Park, Maine

Encased in coastal fog, rocks battered by waves and wind play host to the few hardy trees that can withstand these relentless forces. Defiantly perched atop Otter Cliff, this lonely pine tree bears testimony to the constant battle with the elements. Roots grasping tightly to the surrounding rock, it is buffeted by coastal storms, its remaining branches like arms stretched out for assistance.
